Tips and Tomatoes

I find myself at such an interesting place in my creative life right now!

I know I have so much to learn yet about photography and my camera, and you know what...it is easy to get discouraged!!

I have said it before and I will say it again, I don't know where I am going with this...but somewhere, I WILL go!
Please keep being patient with me as I work through these somewhat silly internal struggles.

I came across a page today which was very encouraging to this very thing.

A fellow named Jerry Ghionis had some tips and these were my favorites.

"Photograph your subject through the eyes of their loved ones."
Wow, I know I wanna do this!!!
I want to be able to, with a photograph, make you see what a loved one sees!
Whoa..talk about really taking some work, that is a challenge of great proportions!
A good goal to try to attain.

"Remember you don't have to be the best...just better than last week."
Now, that is encouraging, and so very right!
I have no desire to be compared to other peoples talent and expertise...I just wanna be me and do the very best I can with the knowledge I have. If that knowledge doesn't expand neither can my skill set.

"Shoot with empathy."
I hadn't really thought about this until reading this comment.
I am gonna think on it some more because it is such an interesting idea.

"If you want to be a better photographer, be a better person."
This shocked me!
It really did.
There was no other explanation, it was just left at that.

After mulling over these few pointers I found it interesting that the same pointers could be heartily applied to our spiritual life!
1. Look at people through the eyes of the one who loves them.
People can sometimes be hard to love, but if we see others with the love of Christ it takes on a whole different perspective!
2. You don't have to be perfect, just better than you used to be.
Hello, amen!!
Thank you God for your mercy and grace as we desperately try to walk down your path!
3. Live life with empathy!
Oh the world would be such a better place with more empathy!
4. To be a better person, be a better christian.
We must keep working at ourselves, striving...running!

I had no intention of writing all of that when I logged on...but such is life!
I actually came to share with you the progress my dear husband is making with our garden area.
To be more specific, the tomato portion of our garden area!!

Well, hello there lovely tomato plant, all new and fantastic there in the ground!!

I will do my best to love you and protect you from vermin and will send out my children to remove any weeds from your dirt and worms from your leaves.
(a girl has got her limits)

I told my husband that I bought 4 tomato plants. He says I bought 5.

Does a cherry tomato plant really count as a whole plant??
Ha ha, he says yes!

He managed to squeeze them all in lovingly though!

And then he gingerly added the plant food to the peppers and....

...to the tomatoes!

Apparently I bought a mild jalapeno, a yellow bell pepper and a dark colored bell pepper for this area.

I can't be held responsible for my actions when set loose at the store by myself to purchase food of any type.
I am an eater and a cooker and an enjoy-er of all things food related!
My precious dear husband of almost 20 years knows this about me and has dreamed up and made a reality this fantastic garden spot!
It is a twofold wonder.
He gets to garden, I get to eat.
I mean...I plan on sharing, sorry if that sounded like I wouldn't! Ha ha!

I will remind you again that is this spring break for my children, so life is topsy turvy...in a good way!
Who knows what adventures wait for us this week!?!
Later!

  1. I really like the photographer pointers that you used as spiritual edifiers.

Just so you know, the picture you took of Bridger sleeping is my favorite we have of him... because you captured a perfect image of one of our favorite (oh, there are so many; it is hard to use that absolute word) times to look at him. Thank you for capturing him the way his loving parents see him. :)

And hooray for your garden! YUMMY, YUM, YUM fun!
